Ray County, Missouri Obituaries - Grizzle, Van d. 1893 b. d. 1893 cem. Lawson, Missouri nee: pd. p. Ray County Conservator obit: Thrown From The Cars And Killed Van Grizzle of Lawson, Mo., Meets Sudden Death at Fort Madison Iowa. Last Sunday night Van Grizzle a well known citizen of Lawson, left on a freight train with a lot of cattle belonging to Simeon T. Robinett, and on Monday morning at Fort Madison was killed by being thrown from the cars. There are several reports as to his death but the one which seems to be the most authentic is, that Mr. Grizzle was sitting on top of the caboose while the train was running at a rapid speed; that a cow got on the track in front of the train and the engineer in turning on the air brakes, stopped the train very suddenly causing Mr. Grizzle to fall forward between the cars resulting in this death. The deceased was at the time of his death in the employ of S.T. Robinett, who died Tuesday from injuries received Saturday by being thrown from his buggy. It is a singular coincidence that the employer and employe should meet such sudden and unexpected deaths by accident at almost the same time. Mr.Grizzle was at one time one of the leading business men of Lawson, but met with reverses in business, which left him without much of this world’s goods He was a good citizen, a true friend and his many friends will mourn his sad death. He leaves a wife and two children who have the earnest sympathy of all. Hs remains were brought home as will be buried at Lawson today. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Jenna Zunker USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
