Ray County, Missouri Obituaries - Nancy J. Grimes d. June 6, 1883 Richmond Democrat 27 SEPT 1883 Condolence. Among the proceeding of the M.E. Church, South, which met at Chillicothe last week, we find the following; We very greatly sympathize with our friend and brother, Rev. C. Grimes, who for four years has served Richmond station, in the loss of his wife of the 6th day, of June, 1883, at the parsonage, after an illness of 4½ months. Surely this is a heavy blow upon our brother, which takes from his the safe counsels and sacred confidence of his wife - that girl of all others most loved by him, and which robs his children of their mother. Who can estimate such loss as this. May God bless them all and have them under his most merciful care. The ladies of Richmond did themselves a great credit and a worthy and devout Christian woman a just tribute of respect, when they erected a monument on her grave at the cost of $100. How much a net softens the bitter sorrows of such an event in the life of our brother. The reporter of this conference and the entire body joins Bro. Grimes in sorrow for his loss, and also in commending the action of the goodly ladies of Richmond who have shown themselves to be capable of doing such a neat thing in so nice a way. Richmond Democrat 6 SEPT 1883 Page 3 A splendid monument marks the last resting place, in our city cemetery of the lamented wife of Rev. C. Grimes, erected by the generosity of the noble ladies of the city of Richmond. This is a worthy tribute, worthily bestowed and one that will not only point future generations to the last resting place of a good and true Christian woman, but it will also stand as a monument to the generosity of those who caused that marble shaft to be erected. Such little bright spots in the lives of weary pilgrims on earth, go a long was toward alleviating the sorrows and sutterings that beset the pathway of all. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives bys: Jenna Zunker USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
