Another pioneer has gone from our community, a good father and one of our very best neighbors. He was highly esteemed and loved by us all. He was not a member of any church but had a hope for several years. May the Lord bless all. - Joseph McAdams. Richmond Missourian, Richmond, Missouri; 1920 Elijah P. Hill. Elijah P. Hill, a son of Royalty and Christiana Hill, was born in the state of Tennessee on February 22, 1837, and died on April 5, 1920, at the age of 83 years, 1 month and 14 days. When he was twelve years of age he came to Missouri with his parents and in 1850 came to Ray county, where he resided up to the time of his death. In 1861 he was united in married to Miss Nancy Ellen Prichard, and to this union ten children were born, nine of whom survive him, and all were present during his last illness. His wife died April 23, 1901. On May 4, 1902, he was again married to Mrs. Lucretia Wilson, who preceeded him in death some ten months ago. One brother and one sister, Mr. William H. Hill and Mrs. John Yoakum, survive. His children are Pres E., James and David Hill of Kansas City; Mrs. Mollie McNeal, of Dodge City, Kansas; John C., George and William Hill and Mrs. Betty Hankins, all of Ray county. The funeral services were conducted by the writer at Union church, and was attended by a large number of friends. His body was laid to rest beside his first wife in Union cemetery. So passes away another of Ray county’s pioneers and a man who was greatly loved by his neighbors and everyone who knew him. He was honest, clever upright and one of the most liberal men of the county. It has been remarked a good many time that Uncle Elijah fed more people than any one in the county. He loved company, and had no enemies, that we know of. He was a life long friend of the writer and we were present on several of his birthday dinners. We had in his last years many talks on the subject of religion. He expressed himself several times. He said he was a changed man from what he one was, and had no fears about the future. May the Lord bless Brother Frank and all of the surviving children and grandchildren, is our prayer. - Joseph McAdams. Richmond Missourian, Richmond, Missouri; 1920 Rayville News, Rayville, Mo. April 5th. - (Special to The Missourian by Old Chip, regular correspondent.) I am sorry to learn this morning that my time-honored friend, Elijah P. Hill, passed away at his home five miles north of Rayville at the ripe old age of eighty-three years. He had been in failing health for a long time. He was a good citizen and he will be missed by all his neighbors. I will look for an extended obituary by Rev. Joe McAdams. The burial will be at the Kincaid cemetery three miles southeast of Knoxville. Both of his companions in life are buried there. Or sympathy goes out to his family who have lost their best friend. We weep with those that weep and our tears unbidden fall. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Jenna Zunker USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
