Ray County, Missouri Obituaries - John Hines d. July 17, 1883 Richmond Democrat 19 JUL 1883 Gone Home Mr. John Hines, an old and respected pioneer of the county, breathed his last on Tuesday night, surrounded by his stricken relatives. Thus, one by one the pioneers of the great and growing west are fading away like mists before the morning sun, leaving upon this dim, uncertain life no shadow of their existence. Mr. Hines was over 80 years of age, and to men of his stamp are we indebted today for the comforts which surround us. However, it is but the (?) of Jehovah that compels the soul to "return to that eternal land of mysteries," where eternal summer reigns supreme, where we may tread happy orchards, lawns, and "Bowery billows crowned with summer sea." Such realizations should reconcile us to pass the flood as briefly wandering through dissolving shadows, then reappearing on the distant shore purified of the sins of earth, bearing only all that in us is good, beautiful and worthy. And in the reunion of sols the clasping of hands in moments of joy unutterable, we will be amply rewarded for the trials and tribulations of this sin-cursed earth. Mr. Hines has for many years been a devoted member of the M.E. Church. His corpse was borne to its final resting place on Wednesday, followed by a large concourse of friends and relatives, Rev. C. Grimes officiating. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives bys: Jenna Zunker USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
