Hicks, one of the well known citizens of southwest Ray county, died at his home in this city, Sunday evening, March 31, 1918, at about 6 o'clock. He had been in failing health for several months and about four wees (sic) left the ____and moved to Orrick and then ____weeks ago went to the Southside hospital in Kansas City, where he hoped to get relief, but was disappointed, and returned home three days before his death. Many of his close friends did not know his condition was so serious, and the announcement of his death came as a surprise to them. Mr. Hicks was a native of Tennessee, born July 16th, 1866 and was 51 years, 8 months and 15 days old at the time of his death. He came to Ray county in 1885, and on December 18th, 1892 was united in marriage to Miss Martha Hanne, daughter of the late Christian Hanne, and of this union, eight children, with the widow, survive. He had been a member of the Christian Uptoun church for a number of years, and lived a true christian life, following closely in the footsteps of the meek and lowly Nazarine; always ready to do ___________. He was a devoted husband and father, and friend and neighbor who will be sadly missed from the home and community. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Monday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Elder J. T. Ferguson, of Kansas City, and interment was made in South Point Cemetery.
