New Florence Cemetery, High Hill, Missouri nee: Maughs Frances Maughs James Herewith is the obituary of Mrs. Frances Maughs James, as published in the Montgomery City, Mo., Standard, of her home county. Mrs. James was a sister of Mrs. Jennie (Mrs. Thos. D.) Bogie of Richmond, Mo., at whose home Mrs. James died. The obituary follows: Frances (Maughs) James was born on a farm about six miles from Williamsburg, in Callaway county, on February 16, 1849, and passed away at the home of her sister, Mrs. Jennie Bogie, in Richmond, Mo., February 3, 1926, at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 17 days. Her remains were brought to High Hill, Mo., on Friday, Feb 5th, funeral on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at the M.E. church, by Pastor Payne. Burial in New Florence cemetery. Deceased was married to John James about 55 years ago and spent her entire married life in New Florence and High Hill. She was the mother of eleven children, only two surviving—Jessie of High Hill and Ernest of Santa Barbara, California. While living in New Florence death claimed five of her children in six weeks from an epidemic of diphtheria. Other of their children died in infancy. One son, Walter, died in Boulder, Colo., leaving a wife and two children. The children, Walter and Dorothy, are both married. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Mateer of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Jennie Bogie of Richmond, Mo., and one half brother, Rev. Seymour Maughs (address unknown). Deceased was educated in the public schools and in a boarding school taught by Prof. McElhenney in High Hill in 1866. She had a bright mind, with a good education for her day. She was a great reader; good books were her best friends, history and poetry especially being her favorites. After the death of her husband, about five years ago, she had made her home most of the time with her sister in Montgomery and New Florence. She spent one year in California. She had been a sufferer for several years with heart trouble and hardening of the arteries.
