Richmond Missourian, Richmond, Ray County, Missouri; Front Page com. obit: Death of Mrs. Pickering. Following an illness of almost two months, Mrs. Eliza Pickering, widow of the late Joseph Pickering, died at her home on West Main street in Richmond at 1:30 o’clock, Tuesday morning, January 18, 1916, at the advanced age of almost 83 years. Mrs. Pickering whose maiden name was Miss Eliza Hartzal, was a native of the state of Pennsylvania, born, January 19, 1833. At the time of her death she lacked only one day of reaching 83 years. In the early fifties she was married to Mr. Joseph Pickering who came to America from England, his native country. The issue of this union was 9 children, 7 of whom survive, as follows: William, George, Charles, Harvey, Isador and Frank, all residents of Richmond, and David Pickering, living in New Mexico. In 1870 Mrs. Pickering came to Richmond with her husband where the remainder of her days were spent. Mr. Pickering died several years ago. Since that time Mrs. Pickering and her son, Charles, have lived at the home here. Mrs. Pickering was stricken with paralysis about six weeks ago and had suffered much since that time. However, she had regained strength since the stroke and had apparently grown better, up until a few weeks ago when her condition grew worse, and owing to her advanced years she was unable to withstand the ailments. She had long been a member of Richmond Baptist church and was one of Richmond’s best women, and in her passing away the earthly career of a dear mother and good neighbor has closed. The bereaved children have the sympathy of all in their hour of sadness. The funeral services were held at the home, yesterday afternoon, at 2:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. F.L. Alexander of the Baptist church. Interment was made in the City cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Jenna Zunker USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
