Ray County, Missouri Obituaries - Robinett, Simeon T. d. 1893 b. d. 1893 cem. Lawson Cemetery nee: pd. p. Ray County Conservator com. obit: A Sad Accident. Near Lawson, Mo., Which Resulted in the Death of Simeon T. Robinett and Serious Injury of John T. Rogers. Last Saturday afternoon one of the saddest accidents we have ever been called upon to chronicle occurred on the Excelsior Springs and Lawson road, about one mile from Lawson. Simeon T. Robinett and John T. Roberts, of Lawson, had been to Excelsior Springs to attend the fair at that place and were returning home. When a couple of miles out from Lawson Mr. Robinett suggested that they were on a good road and that he would show the speed of his fine team. He had not driven far before he reached an abrupt turn in the road, and just as he reached this point one of the horse shied and the buggy were overturned and its occupants throw suddenly and violently to the ground. Mr Robinett was terribly bruised and injured internally by the fall and rendered unconscious, and Rogers although badly hurt was able to get up and look after his friend and companion, and by the assistance of others, took him to the residence of his brother, Moss Robinett who resided near the scene of the accident. Medical aid was immediately summoned, but it was soon discovered that the chances for recovery were slim, and the patient gradually grew worse until Friday afternoon when death relieved him of his terrible suffering. The deceased was one of the best known and most successful farmers and stock shippers of that section, and his death is a sad blow to his numerous friends and acquaintances with whom he had done so much business. He had a farm of five hundred acres of land, as fine as lies in Clinton county, and had everything around him calculated to make home comfortable and happy. He was at times rough and abrupt, but on the inside he had a big, honest heart, and was never known to forsake a friend or refuse to give aid and comfort to the needy. He leaves a wife and numerous relatives to mourn his untimely death, to whom we extend our deepest sympathy in their hour of sore affliction. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Presbyterian church in Lawson by Rev. W.A. Crouch of Turney, an old friend of the family, after which the body was take in charge by the Masonic order and Knights of Pythias, and conveyed to the cemetery, and after appropriate ceremonies was said to be one of the largest ever seen in that section of the country, the friends of the deceased coming from far and near. Peace be to his ashes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Jenna Zunker USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
