Ray County, Missouri Obituaries - Rush, Josephus d. date b. d. cem. nee: pd. p. Ray County Conservator com. obit: Another Victim. Josephus Rush Killed by a Santa Fe Train Near Camden. On Tuesday morning the mangled remains of a man were found strewn alone the Santa Fe railway track near Akers’ store in Lower Camden. It was soon discovered that the mutilated body was that of Josephus Rush, a farmer who lived in Lower Camden and who was an unfortunate victim of the drink habit. On Monday he was at Camden and after imbibing large quantities of the vile whisky sold at the saloons in that place started home late in the evening, walking up Santa Fe railway track. The supposition is that he was overcome by the liquor when he reached Akers’ store and lay down on or near the track to sleep and in a short time was run over and killed by one of the many passing trains. His body was frightfully mangled, his nose, eyes, pieces of his scalp, his bowels and his brains being found scattered along the track for quite a distance. Poor "Ceph." His death was an awful one Only a week or two ago he was in our office in a state of intoxication when we warned him that such a fate would overtake him. He was a good-natured and hard working man, but was an unfortunate victim of the habit which is daily landing hundreds in untimely graves. We extend to the aged parents and relatives of the deceased our deepest sympathy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Jenna Zunker USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
