Ray County, Missouri Obituaries - Smithey, Granville d. July 11, 1893 b. March 1, 1825 d. July 11, 1893 cem. sp: Susan Eaton pd. p. Ray County Conservator com. obit: Death of Granville Smithey. Died at his home near Camden on Tuesday night, July 11, 1893. Granville Smithey, aged 68 years, after a long illness from stomach trouble. The deceased was born in Woodford county, Kentucky, March 1, 1825, and was married August 21, 1851, to Miss Susan Eaton, a native of the same county. In 1854 they moved to Clay County, Mo., and two years later moved to Ray county. Of their marriage eleven children were born, all of whom are now living. Mr. Smithey was one of Ray county’s most worthy and substantial citizens and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. He was an excellent neighbor and those who had known him longest, loved him best. He was kind hearted and liberal, and the needy could always go to him with the assurance that he would give them all the assistance possible. Such is the name given him by those who had lived side by side with him for more than two score years. In addition to a wife and eleven children he also leaves twenty-seven grandchildren living. It is with the deepest sorrow that we record the death of one who for years had been our personal friend, and for whom we had the highest regard. Funeral services were held at the residence, under the auspices of the Masonic order of which he had long been a useful and honored member. A large concourse of friends and acquaintances followed the remains to their last resting place. The relatives of the deceased have the profound sympathy of their many friends in the loss of one so dear to them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Jenna Zunker USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
