Richmond Missourian, Richmond, Ray County, Missouri; Front Page com. obit: Mrs. Hiram Smithey Dead Young Wife and Mother Passed Away South of Richmond, on Tuesday Night. Mrs. Ruth Smithey, wife of Mr. Hiram Smithey, died at the family home on a farm three miles southwest of Richmond, shortly before midnight, Tuesday, January 18, 1916, at the age of 21 years. Mrs. Smithey’s maiden name was Miss Ruth Lillard, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Lillard, residing in the Camden country. She was born near that town, February 7, 1893, and was in her 22nd year at the time of her death. She was married to Mr. Smithey four years ago, and to them two children have been born, whom, with the husband survive. She is also survived by the mother and father, three brothers, Earl, Hale and Orbra, and one sister, Carolina Lillard. The subject of this sketch was converted several years ago and united with the Christian church at Friendship, and in her death the community in which she spent her days has lost one of its best women. The home has lost its mother, and the little babes will no more receive the tender touch of a mother’s hands. The bereaved have the sympathy of all. The funeral was held at the Friendship church this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Interment made in the Smithey burying ground. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by county coordinator USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
