Ray County, Missouri Obituaries - Nancy C. Snowden (Ball) 1809-1897 Thursday night January 7, 1897, at 8:30 o'clock after a brief illness, aged 87 years one month and 15 days. She was married to David H. Snowden January 17, 1829. David H. Snowden, Esq., who for many years was one of the leading and substantial citizens of Richmond, died in the summer of 1876 at a ripe old age. Transcription of "Death of Mrs. Nancy C. Snowden" Mrs. Nancy C. Snowden, widow of the late David H. Snowden, and one of the oldest residents of Richmond, died at her home on east Lexington street Thursday night January 7, 1897, at 8:30 o'clock after a brief illness, aged 87 years one month and 15 days. The maiden name of the deceased was Nancy C. Ball. She was born in Knox county, Kentucky November 22, 1809, and from there moved with her parents to the state of Alabama, her last residence in that state being at Athens. With her parents she then moved to Ray county, Mo., settling a few miles northeast of Richmond. She was married to David H. Snowden January 17, 1829, after which they moved to the McGaugh neighborhood just east of Richmond. After residing on a farm for a while they moved to Hardin and then back to Richmond, March 1, 1852 where they continued to make their home. Of their marriage three children were born, Mrs. Eva Ball and Miss Sue Snowden who survive her and Adaline a twin sister of Mrs. Ball who died when quite young. Her husband David H. Snowden, Esq., who for many years was one of the leading and substantial citizens of Richmond, died in the summer of 1876 at a ripe old age, leaving many warm personal friends behind. The deceased had been afflicted for a number of years with deafness and was almost totally blind and was quite helpless. Some two weeks prior to her death she fell and injured her hip, which rendered her entirely helpless and from that time she gradually grew worse until death came to relieve her. Besides her two daughters, she leaves a number of grand children and great grand children and numerous other relatives. For many years prior to her death she had lived with her daughter, Miss Sue Snowden and her grandson I. C. Snowden, who tenderly watched after and cared for her in her affliction, providing her with every comfort possible. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church, of which the deceased was a member, Saturday morning following her death by Rev. J. S. VanMeter pastor, after which the body was taken to the city cemetary (sic) for interment. (sic) The CONSERVATOR but voices the sentiment of the people of Richmond and vicinity and relatives of the deceased.
