Ray County Conservator obit: Death of Geo. I. Wasson One of the Old Landmarks of Richmond and Early Settlers of Ray County Surrenders to the Great Reaper, Death. His Life an Active, Energetic and Useful One. Perhaps no man ever lived in Richmond or within the borders of Ray county who was so universally known as was Geo. I. Wasson, and perhaps no man ever died in our midst who had done more for distressed and afflicted humanity then he, and no man ever lived among us whose death will be more regretted then his. When in the vigor of young manhood he left his home in Wilson county, Tennessee and came to Missouri, settling in Richmond, among strangers, in poverty, without money or influence, but he brought with him something far better for a young man to possess, when launching out into the world among strangers, and these were energy, industry, perseverance and honesty in his dealings with men His splendid traits of character in his business life were soon noticed by the old settlers of the county, and it was not long until he wielded an influence which continued through the fifty-three years of his residence in Richmond, and when death claimed him he could have counted his friends by the thousands, and all will say with one voice, a useful citizen has gone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Jenna Zunker USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
