She pasted all sorts of clippings over the written pages of this book, covering some pages in their entirety and others only for half the space and still others, she did not use at all. All of my life, I have known of my Mother’s scrapbook, but not until 1978 did I examine it closely. I found that in truth, the old ledger was the book in which minutes were kept for the Cambridge Grange, No. 382 P, Cambridge, Missouri. Many pages are missing and some are so covered with clippings and pictures as to make them unreadable, but it would appear that the minutes still in the book cover a period from January 1876 through May 1883. The minutes of 4/5/1879 show that W. F. Mangus (Ida Mangus Borchers’ father) was initiated into the Grange and there is something about a second degree. The minutes of 4/19/1879 show that Sister Mangus was inducted into to the Degree of Matrons. The minutes of 9/6/1879 show that the meeting was opened with W. F. Mangus, Overseer, in the Chair. The minutes of 11/29/1879 show a petition was received from Charles Mangus for membership and was referred to the committee. The minutes of 12/6/1879 show he was initiated and was inducted into the Degree of Cultivation. Cost of his initiation was $3.00. The minutes of 1/3/1880 show that W. F. Mangus was appointed to the Finance Committee. On 2/7/1880 Charles Mangus was elected as Corresponding Secretary. The minutes for 9/25/1880 were written and signed by Charles Mangus, pro.tem. On 12/4/1880, officers were elected and W. F. Mangus was elected the office of W. Master while C. W. (Charles) Mangus was elected to serve W. Sect. It appears both held these two offices for a full year. On 1/7/1882, Charles Mangus was elected as a delegate to the County Grange. When officers were elected in 1883, W. F. Mangus was elected as G and C. W. Mangus as W. S. At this same meeting, both were appointed to the Finance Committee. And at this point the readable ledger ends. Helen Borchers Rea
