Approximately five miles south of Marshall, Missouri History: "This is believed to be an all black cemetery." This cemetery appears to well cared for and fenced. Then September 26, 1863 - almost 100 years ago - a certificate of freedom was issued to her under President Lincoln's Emancipation proclamation. That certificate, now framed and under glass for preservation, is the property of the Rev. Richard A. Lewis, 473 West Marion. When the girl Penelope was 19 she married William Lewis and they lived many years at Pennytown. She became widely known as Aunt Penny Lewis in her old years.
