Saline County Missouri, letters and family of THOMAS FARRELL letter from OS Dunn to Thomas Farrell Sr, Oct 29 1864, Oregon MO.. (speaking about Robert Cooper, husband of Elizabeth Farrell Cooper & Robert & Eliz son, Sam) I am sorry to hear that your county has been so turned upside down by the Rebels and still more sorry to see in the papers that the notorious Todd has been in your neighborhood and comitted so many horrible outrages. I trust for the credit of humanity that these reports are greatly exagerated. We have had peace and comparitive quiet up here as yet our milita have gone below to look for guerillas. ROBERT COOPER was with Price, perhaps he called to see you. He was wounded in the right knee at Pilot Knob while leading a charge upon a battery. He is still Capt. of a Co. of Calvary. Sam is not dead as we heard last summer but is in the rebel infantry in Arkansas (son of George Robert and Elizabeth Farrell) ******************************************************** letter from OS Dunn to Thomas Farrell Sr. Oct 29 1864, Oregon Mo. To Florinda Farrell from Mary, Dec 20, 1864, Oregon MO " I was with deare Mrs. Cooper when she died, I went up to see her and she would not give up for she said she knew i could wait on the sick better then anybody she ever saw. She was very anxious to see her relatives before she died, she did not think she would get well from the time she was taken sick, she did not say one word about what she wanted the children to do, poor things what will they do, neither Father nor Mother to advice them. I staid week with them after their Mothers death, brother is staying with them now and has been ever since they have been sick. We buried Aunt Bettie in black, she looked so sweet, and any be like all in mourning for that her sister she was soon to meet in that world where mourning is worn no more..............................Bob Cooper was here three days go he said she was some better (re Puss Tolbut)..(speaking about Elizabeth Farrell Cooper, their sister upon dying and leaving her children) *************************************************************************** WRITTEN BY THOMAS FARRELL, HIS WORDS AND SPELLING; The Great Battle fought at Lexington beginning Wedensday the 18th of Sept,1861, and continued night and day till Friday 2o'clock...when federal men raised the white flag and gave up thier arms.
