It is on the west side of Hwy. 61 on farm owned | by Ray Graham. It is behind the barn, the stones are somewhat buried | near a fence. Northeast Quarter Section 12, Township 28 N, Range 13E in | Moreland Township. 7 Graves | | Ancell Cemetery Years of Operation: 1823 - 1913 | | Take Highway 61 to Road PP at Kelso, MO. Turn East on PP and cemetery | is approximately 2½ miles from Kelso in Commerce Township. 24 Graves | | Anderson Cemetery Years of Operation: 1841 to 1971 | | Located in the city and township of Commerce. The cemetery is at the | west end of Spring Street. You need to then turn right and go to the | top of hill and you should see the cemetery. 167 Graves | | Bell Cemetery Years of Operation: 1839 - 1947 | | Regrettably, this cemetery no longer exists. The cemetery was a short | distance off Highway 77, 2 or 3 miles south of Chaffee in Kelso | Township. A native of the community, back in the fall of 1981, stated | that a tombstone in an alley in downtown Chaffee came out of the | cemetery. We do not know, but the names on this one marker were COX | family members. 7 Cox individuals. | | Benton City Cemetery Years of Operation: 1840 to present | | Southeast city limit of Benton, on the west side of Highway 61 on the | top of the hill in Moreland Township. As you head south out of town | look for a street sign "Old Highway 61" on your right. Take that road | for a very short distance and you will see a blacktop road bear to your | right up a hill. Turn up that hill and it will appear that you are at | someone's house and barn. Drive on to your left toward the barn and you | will see a road along side of the barn that leads down to the Benton | City Cemetery. Only one stone of Joseph Burger, died | January 14, 1894 at age 44 years. Over 700 Graves | | Friend Cemetery Years of Operation: 1863 - Present |In city limits of Oran, at junction of Highway 77 and W, turn East and | the cemetery is at top of hill on the left in Sylvania Township. After you cross over | the rail road tracks, the cemetery is about a mile on the left side of | Murry Lane in New Madrid County. Over 3,000 Graves | | Giboney Cemetery No longer in existence....see Mt. Zion Cemetery |Take the Northeast Outer Road at Scott City, MO. Turn right on Rock | Levee Road and go .8 mile to the top of the hill. It was located on the | south side of the road on Albert Hillemann Farm in Kelso Township. The | graves were moved to Mt. Zion Cemetery in Scott City around 1989. The | markers are in the front of Mt. Zion Cemetery facing Cherry Street. 8 | Graves | | Graveyard Hill Cemetery Years of Operation: 1866 - ? | | Located on Denis F. LeGrand Farm, eight-tenths of a mile east of I-55 | on Highway E, north side of road in field on top of hill in Moreland | Township. 3 Graves | | Gray's Point Cemetery Years of Operation: 1876 - 1918 | | East of Scott City on Route N, approximately 1 mile north of Gray's | Point Road, west side of the road. Southeast quarter Section 27, | Township 30 North, Range 14 East, Kelso Township. The headstones have | now been moved to the front of St. Joseph's Cemetery in Scott City. | 25 Graves | | Guardian Angle Catholic Years of Operation: 1940 - Present | | Behind Guardian Angel Church, between Church Street and Rosati Street in | Oran, Missouri, | Sylvania Township. Over 350 Graves | | Hare Cemetery Years of Operation: 1880 - 1917 |One-quarter mile south of town ditch at Blodgett on Route H, then a | quarter mile east in the field in Sandy Woods Township.9 Graves | | Hart's Cemetery Years of Operation: 1865 - 1958 |Located on North Ingram Road across from the Sikeston Industrial | Complex in Richland Township. Between the 1940's and 1970's this | cemetery was said to have been haunted.58 Graves | | Hickory Grove Cemetery Years of Operation: 1878 - 1974 |On County Road C, go east of Morley for four miles. Cemetery is on the | right in Sandy Woods Township. There are many metal markers which are | illegible. 85 Graves | | Huey Cemetery Years of Operation: 1861 - 1884 |East of Blodgett, then three-quarters mile south of railroad, thru Fox | Meadows sub-division, graves are on the east side of the road in a | field. Northeast Quarter Section 24, Township 27 North, Range 14 East, | Sandy Woods Township. 6 Graves | | Hunter Cemetery Years of Operation: 1841 - 1872 | Go north on Highway 61 out of Sikeston to the first private road on | the right south of Scott Central School in Richland Township. This road | will bend to the left after a short distance. Then, turn to the right | at the first private road. The cemetery is on the left about one | quarter mile down the road. It is in poor condition and reportedly, | many stones have disappeared. 8 Graves | | Hunter Presbyterian Years of Operation: 1828 - 1874 | This cemetery is located by the Sikeston Presbyterian Church on the | corner of Wakefield and Allen Blvd. in Richland Township. Early | settlers of Scott County who were related to the people in the above | cemetery. 13 Graves | | Jones Cemetery Years of Operation: 1858 - 1863 |Located on Albert Scherer farm on County Road PP, approximately | nine-tenths mile west of Kelso. 5 Graves | | Kelso (Dannenmueller) Cemetery Years of Operation: 1876 - 1947 | One-quarter mile north of Kelso on Messmer Street in Kelso Township. 38 | Graves | | Lambert CemeteryYears of Operation: 1853 - 1968 |Located in the village of Lambert, just outside of Benton, in Moreland | Township. Twelve of the sixteen graves were Lamberts. 16 Graves | | Lightner Cemetery Years of Operation: 1910 - Present |In Scott City on 11th Street a half mile south of Maple Street in Kelso | Township. You turn right on Maple Street to 11th Street, or the Old | River Road to Commerce. The Lightner Cemetery is on the left side and | St. Joseph's is on the right side. Over 1,300 Graves | | McMullin Cemetery Years of Operation: 1974 |Located 1.2 mile south of Main St. in Scott City, MO, on Road 311 | behind farm houses in Kelso Township. One baby girl McMullin, Daughter | of John T. & Matilda E. (Hann) McMillin, born & died October 25, 1974. | | McMullin/Marshall Years of Operation: 1825 - 1943 | Locate on Highway 61 north, approximately 8 miles north of Sikeston, in | a small community called McMullin in Richland Township. Also known as | "Benefield Cemetery" at one time. It is on the east side of Hwy. 61 | across the road from the McMullin Mini-Mart. A local resident told me | the cemetery has also been called the "Grant City Cemetery". | Originally there were 81 Graves | | Maynard Cemetery Years of Operation: 1875 - 1977 | Located on Route 77 north of Diehlstadt in Tywappity Township. Go north | for 2.3 miles then turn right on a gravel road and go one half-mile. | Turn right and go for another one-half mile and the cemetery is on the | right side of the road.271 Graves | | Memorial Park Cemetery Years of Operation: 1926-Present | | A Non-sectarian cemetery just over the New Madrid County line and the | southern limits of Sikeston. It is between J. C. Penny's and the Birch | Tree Mall set back off of Kings Highway. As the cemetery is inside the | Sikeston City limits it is included in this booklet. Over 3,400 | Graves | | Mennonite Graves Three graves between 1927 - 1931 | | Go north from Sikeston on Highway 61 to Highway "ZZ" and turn left. Go | approximately one-eighth mile east of Tanner Community in Richland | Township. Graves are in a field approximately one-fourth mile south on | the Herman Newman farm. There were only three graves: Andrew | Borntrager, son of Daniel and Katie Miller Borntrager, born and died May | 22, 1927. Simon & Fannie Weirich's bodies were disinterred on September | 12, 1981 and reinterred in New Penn Cemetery, LaGrange County, Indiana. | | Miller Cemetery Years of Operation: 1868 - 1939 | South of Blodgett 2.2 miles on Highway H, then one-quarter mile east on | Peach Orchard Lane, south side of road. Southwest Quarter Section 23, | Township 27 North, Range 14 East, Sandy Woods Township.23 Graves | | Miner Baptist Cemetery Years of Operation: 1894 - 1979 | Located in the unincorporated city limits of Miner, east of Sikeston | in Richland Township. The cemetery is in very poor condition and many | headstones are broken or lying on the ground. 86 Graves | | Moore Cemetery Years of Operation: 1866 - 1903 | From Benton, go south on Highway 61 to Highway 77 and bear right | towards Oran. Turn right on road "W" and go nine-tenths mile. The | cemetery is in Sylvania Township out in a field. There is no access by | car. 7 Graves | | | Mt. Zion Cemetery Years of Operation: 1860 - 1974 |In the 400 block of Cherry Street in Scott City, formerly Illmo, MO in | Kelso Township. The Giboney graves were moved from the old Giboney | Cemetery to this cemetery around 1987 or 1988. They are located in the | front of the cemetery facing Cherry Street.65 Graves | | New Morley Cemetery Years of Operation: 1942 - Present |Go north from Sikeston on Highway 61 to Highway 91 and turn right. The | cemetery is within four-tenths mile of the main city junction in Morley | Township. Turn left at the stop sign and drive straight on that road | (becomes a lesser road) until you see the cemetery on the left. Over | 500 Graves | | Oakdale Cemetery Years of Operation: 1859 - Present |Located six miles east of Benton and two miles west of Commerce on | County Road "R" in Commerce Township. Over 600 Graves | | Old Commerce Cemetery - See Anderson Cemetery | | Old Guardian Angel Catholic Years of Operation: 1883 - Present |In Oran, .2 mile north of intersection of Highway 77 and Church Street | in Sylvania Township. Over 550 Graves | | Old Morley Cemetery Years of Operation: 1866 - Present | | In Morley, within four-tenths mile of the main city junction in Morley | Township. Turn left at the stop sign and drive straight on that road | (becomes a lesser road) until you see the cemetery on the left. Over | 1,500 Graves | | Parrot Cemetery Years of Operation: 1860 - 1867 |Two and a half miles southeast of Kelso, on a farm owned by Sylvester | and Ramona Glastetter. Wilson Parrot's home plantation contained 280 | acres located in Section 19, Township 29 North, We are sure there were | many Parrot family members buried there at one time but only three | graves are there today. County Court records indicate that Woodson | Parrot died in the summer or early fall of 1858 and was most likely | buried in this cemetery. Edison's Shrum's History of Scott County, | Missouri state that his son, Major James Parrott (who served in the | Confederate 8th Missouri Cavalry unit in the Civil War), died in Little | Rock, Arkansas on May 13, 1864. Shrum states that tradition has it that | a slave was sent to Little Rock for his body, which was brought home and | interred in the family cemetery on the Woodson Parrott plantation. | Today, 3 Graves | | Perkins Springs Cemetery Years of Operation: 1867 |In a grove on top of a steep hill, as approached from Clem Lindeman's | home, one-quarter mile south, southeast of the road at Perkins Spring | and about 100 yards southeast of the Lindeman home. Northeast Quarter | of Northeast Quarter of Section 3, Township 29, North Range 14 East in | Kelso Township. Marie Catherine Meinz, Born Oct 27, 1853 - Died | April 1, 1867. | | Plainview (or Perkins) Years of Operation: 1914 - 1978 | Going south on Highway 61 South, from Benton, take Highway 77 North to | Oran. Take State Highway W to State Highway P, turn right and go | seven-tenths mile to the Missionary Baptist Church. Follow the road | around the church to the top of the hill. The cemetery overlooks | Perkins, MO in Sylvania Township.26 Graves | | Pleasant Valley Cemetery Years of Operation: 1869 - 1946 | From Sikeston, go north on old Highway 62 to first through blacktop | road east of Interstate 55. Turn left on the blacktop road and go | north for 3.4 miles. Look carefully for a path on the right. The | cemetery is located in Sandy Woods Township. In 1981 the cemetery was | grown up in woods with brush piles around. The cemetery is in very poor | condition and many markers have been destroyed. 27 Graves | | Pollard CemeteryYears of Operation: 1883 - 1978 | | >From Sikeston, go north on I-55 to the Benton Exit and turn right (head | east) on State Highway 77. Turn left on County Road 333 and go a short | distance. You will see a sandy road, or more like a lane, on your | right. Take that County Road 346 for a mile or two and you will see | Pollard Cemetery on the right in a grove of trees. In the Spring it is | covered with pretty blue flowering weeds. 139 Graves | | Prince Cemetery | | | Raspberry Cemetery Years of Operation: Unknown - 1902 |In Commerce on Route 321, One-and-a-quarter mile north of New Madrid | Street on the West side of road on hill in Commerce Township. 8 | graves | | Rockview Cemetery Years of Operation: 1882 - Present | From downtown Chaffee, go north on Highway "m" for approximately one | mile to the community of Rockview in Kelso Township. The cemetery is | approximately seven-tenths mile from Highway "M". Residents in the area | advised there are many unmarked graves. 73 Graves | | Rocky Branch Cemetery Years of Operation: 1853 - 1908 | | On the East side of Highway 77, on top of the hill at the viaduct north | of Oran. Southeast Quarter Section 7, Township 28 North, Range 13 East | Sylvania Township. 42 graves | | Ross Cemetery Years of Operation: 1839 - 1877 |In the corner of a field 1.4 mile south of Commerce on Road 341, then | .1 mile from a levee on the right in Commerce Township. 7 graves | | St. Ambrose Cemetery | | | St. Augustine Cemetery Years of Operation: Mid-1800s - Present |On Highway 61 in Kelso on the south side of St. Augustine Catholic | Church in Kelso Township. | | St. Denis Cemetery - Benton, MO | | | St. Joseph Cemetery Years of Operation: 1900s |One-half mile of the intersection of Maple and 11th Streets in Scott | City and north of Lightner Cemetery in Kelso Township. The Mausoleum is kept locked. The city | clerk's office has the names of persons buried and dates of the burial | permits. Drive west | from down town on Malone Ave. to West Street (then becomes Northwest | Ave.) and go two blocks to Compress Road. Turn left on Compress Road | and drive seven or eight blocks to Alabama Street. Turn left on | Alabama. Approx. 500 Graves | | Thomas Cemetery Years of Operation: 1933 - 1949 | | This cemetery is a private one on a hill overlooking Perkings, MO in | Sylvania Township. Go seven miles west of Oran on Highway "W" and turn | right on Highway "P" and go seven-tenths mile to the Missionary Baptist | Church. Follow the road around the cemetery at the church and go to the | top of the hill as far as you can go. In 1980, there were three Thomas | graves and one hand made stone you could not read. 4 Graves | | | Union Park Cemetery - Chaffee, MO | | | Unity Cemetery | | Take the Benton Exit off I-55 and go east. You will drive for several | miles until you come to the Unity Baptist Church on your left. The | cemetery is in the rear of the church. 90+ Graves | | Vanduser Cemetery | | | Vollmer Cemetery Years of Operation: 1861 - 188? | East side of Highway 61 south of Kelso on hill in Diebold Orchard in | Kelso Township. | 3 Graves | | Warfield Cemetery Years of Operation: 1948 - 1971 | Go north from Sikeston on Highway 61 and turn left on Highway 91 at | Morley. Proceed to "CC" Road and turn left. Go north for 1.9 miles. | Cemetery is on the right in Sylvania Township. 11 Graves | | Watkins Cemetery Years of Operation: |This cemetery is found on the west side of Highway 61 between Morley | and Benton. You will see a large sign stating "Welcome to General | Watkins Conservation Area" on your left if you are heading north. There | are several picnic benches in the area and the road winds past the | little park area. Follow that road a few hundred feet and you will see | the Watkins Cemetery on your right. It is now fenced to prevent | vandalism but the monuments are clearly visable. | | Westerwelle Cemetery Years of Operation: 1894 - 1904 | Go north on Emma Street to Fifth Street in Scott City, then right on | Fifth, turn north on Nellie Street. Go l.3 mile and take the right fork | a half mile to top of hill, then left in a field.
