This file was contributed by: Karen Hermann, khermann@n-link.com =============================================================== The oldest Scott Co. resident that I know of was Enoch Evans. He was there at the forming of the county according to the article in the Newsboy from the archives. The article stated that he was one of 5 men "appointed to locate the seat of justice for Scott County". Enoch was married to Amelia Jenkins and they had 5 children that I know of: John, James, Bartholomew Jenkins, Mary Amelia, and Elizabeth, all born in Morgantown VA (now WV)where the family came from. John married first Talitha G. English abt. 1818 and they had a son, Rawley English, b. Jan. 19, 1819. Talitha d. Oct. 22, 1822, and is buried in Cape Girardeau Co. Rawley m. first Sarah Barnes, dau. of Elisha Barnes, abt. 1840. They had 8 children. He m. second, Carolyn Barnes Stone, Sarah's sister, and possibly his third wife was Synthie Friend. John m. second Elizabeth (?) abt. 1826 and they had 4 known children: Catherine I., Louisa, Wilson Brown, and Amelia. Catherine m. David Harrison, probably a cousin to Sarah Barnes and a nephew to Sarah's mother. Louisa (my gggrandmother) married William Henry Myers Dec. 8, 1850. John m. third Mary Jane McLane (McClain) Mar. 2, 1842. She had a daughter, Mary Jane, presumably from a previous marriage and they had 2 children, Margaret and Lawrence. John was a justice of the peace in Scott Co. and sat on the bench of the probate court from Apr. 1849 'til Feb. 1850. He died in Apr. 1850. His son, Rawley, and wife, Mary Jane, were appointed administrators. Apparently Mary Jane remarried and moved out of the state because she drops from the estate records and the curatorship of young Mary Jane is terminated because she no longer lives in the state.
