Sketch of Stephen T. Bryan and Robert Rose, Published by Bryan, Brand & Co., St. Louis Missouri, 1876. ********************************************************************** James McAtee and his wife, whose maiden name was Ellen Montgomery, were natives of Montgomery County, Maryland; their parents came from Ireland. They had several children, among whom were three sons: Elias, James and Ignatius. Elias married Henrietta Magruder, who was of Scotch descent, and settled in Union County, KY. The names of their children were: John R., Stephen T., Mary, Elizabeth, Rose, Teresa and Maria. John R. became blind, and died in Kentucky, un- married. Stephen T. married Cathatine Bowles. Mary married Vernon Brown, who settled in Madison County, MO., in 1823. Elizabeth married Benedict Wathen, of Illinois. Rose married Walter Bowles. Teresa married Leo Bowlees, and Maria died in childhood. Stephen T. McAtee removed from Kentucky to Missouri and settled in St. Charles County in 1834. Mr. McAtee was prompt and reliable in all the transactions of life, and was universally respected by all who knew him. He held the office of Justice of the Peace for seventeen years, and died in 1863, at the age of sixty four years. His widow is still living at the old homestead, in her 78th year.
