Sketch of John Moore, St. Charles County, Missouri >From "A History of the Pioneer Families of Missouri, with numerous sketches, anecdotes, adventures, etc., relating to Early Days in Missouri" by William S. Bryan and Robert Rose, Published by Bryan, Brand & Co., St. Louis Missouri, 1876. ********************************************************************** John Moore, who is still living in St. Charles County, near St. Peters, in his 89th year, is of German parentage. His father came from South Carolina to Philadelphia, and learned the hatter's trade. There he be- came acquainted with and married Elizabeth Bobb, and they had three children: Thomas, Maria and John. The two former died in infancy, and John learned the cooper's trade. He remembers well when General Wash- ington died, and saw him frequently before his death, as he often had passed his father's shop. When John was twenty one years of age he went to Kentucky, and lived in Lexington two and a half years. He then returned to Philadelphia, where he remained five years, and then he re- moved to West Virginia. In 1822, he settled in St. Charles County, where he has since resided. He was married three times, first to Fran- ces Dawlins; second to Margaret McCoy; and third to the widow Eller, who abandoned him soon after their marriage. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
