Bobbie was born June 18, 1927, in Kansas City, KS. She grew up in the Kansas City area. The schools she attended were Seven Oaks, Central, K.C. MO Jr. College, Park College and graduated from KU in Home Economics. The defining event in her life was polio at the age of 26, spending her fifth wedding anniversary in an iron lung. There was some recovery during the next year, but her lungs, hands, arms and one leg remained of limited use. The usual bleak future of most polio victims was avoided when an older woman artist from church took Bobbie to her home, sat her down and with some makeshift experimenting, helped her complete her first painting. That day changed everything and a talent was discovered that might never have been discovered without that debilitating disease. Bobbie's art endeavors increased with the years, with different subjects and styles. At one point, she painted miniatures with a friend who procured the frames and made the easels, producing an assembly-line effort. They stopped counting at 3,000. A salesman friend distributed them to various stores in several states, Halls in K.C. and Nieman Marcus in Texas. Painting was not her whole life. A committed Christian from childhood, Bobbie was always active in church life. Polio may have restricted her, but she was always on prayer chains at church, often two at a time. At one period, she gave testimonials featuring her paintings at Christian women's groups where a pianist and singer usually accompanied the presentations. Neck pain stopped the art production some twenty years ago, but she grew as a prayer warrior ad even recently, when she couldn't write, was still receiving and making prayer-chain calls by memory. She leaves behind her husband, Philip Snyder, of 56 years; a nephew, Joe Cunningham of Shreveport, LA; and an army of friends. Her family would like to thank North Care Hospice for their care at the end of her journey.
