He has been on the Police ??? since the 12th last night left home too go on duty. He looked perfectly well when about 10 or 11 oclock he was called off of his beat by the Captain of the Police too go down on Almond Street that there was a big riot. He went down and caught 2 of the rioters and took them up to the calaboose. And started back again when he dropped dead on the street without saying one word. The doctor said he had the heart disease.Night before last he said he never felt better in his life. The burial will come the 26th or 27th. All the rest of the family is well at present. And I hope these few lines will find you enjoying the same pleasure. The rioters cleaned out 23 houses on Almand and Poplar Streets. No more at present. Yours Truly written by John H.
