The Hannibal Journal January 20, 1848
A Mr. Thornton, of St. Louis, while laboring under partial aberration of mind, 
attempted to commit suicide.  His wound, inflicted by a dirk, was severe, and 
he is not expected to recover.  He was very rich, and the fear of losing his 
wealth, caused his mental alienation.
