Stetter TimeTraveler303@aol.com September 1, 2007, 2:15 pm reprinted in Oakley GRAPHIC, Oakley, Logan County, Kansas; February 21, 1890 "FUNERAL OF JNO. A. FISHER." (St. Louis Republic) Four sons and two sons-in-law officiated as pall bearers at the funeral of Mr. John H. FISHER yesterday from his residence, No. 215 Howard street, Rev. Dr. FARRIS conducting the services, which were well attended by relatives and friends. Deceased was in the seventy-third year of his age, was born in Hamburg, Germany, and came to St. Louis when 18 years of age. By old citizens he will be remembered as the senior member of the firm of FISHER & ZUBROC, extensive grocers on Broadway, later as conducting a wholesale liquor and grocery business on Second and Vine streets. In the latter fifties he was a director in the Missouri State bank, and about that time a member of the St. Louis county democratic central committee. For nine years he has been confined to his house by a complication of diseases, and for the past three years has hardly been outside of his room. His death, therefore, was not unanticipated. He leaves a widow (nee Miss Francis Nicolet) and five grown sons and daughters. Interment took place in Bellefontaine, and the pall bearers were: Messrs. Louis A. FISHER, merchant at Oakley, Kas.; Frank R. FISHER, grocer, St. Louis; William FISHER and John A. FISHER, clerks in this city; Edward H. NOLTE, delivery wagon manufacturer, and John H. WOLFF, an employe of the Pullman upholstery shops. Dr. Charles H. FISHER, the oldest son, a resident of Santa Rosalja, Chihuahua, Mexico, was unable to reach the city in time for the obsequies. Mr. Frank R. FISHER returned from the Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans, in response to a telegram, in time for the services. Additional Comments: Source: "FUNERAL OF JNO. A. FISHER."
