Our thanks to Deanna West and Diana Malone Turner, g-g-granddaughters of George A. Lacy, for sharing this historical document with us. History: This letter was transcribed and typed from the original document by George's granddaughter in about 1961. George A. Lacy lived in Stoddard Co., MO 1860 to approximately 1862. His family consisted of his wife Susan E. Bolin Lacy, a son Elijah Ewing Lacy (one of two surviving male twins), Elijah's twin George Washington Lacy lived only a few months and two daughters that survived child birth; eldest child, Eliza Jane Lacy and Susan Lucinda Lacy (one of two female twins that survived child birth). Only Susan Lucinda and her twin, Sarah Elizabeth were born in Stoddard County, in 1861. According to family history, after this letter was written, the Confederates came looking for George one more time and he hid under the porch to avoid capture. There are no further accounts of George around the time of Vicksburg. It is not known whether he was ever accepted into the Union Army. George's wife Susan remarried in Williamson Co., Illinois in 1867. Elijah, may have been the only surviving child out of seven.
