Biographical Sketch of Alfred Randolph Craven, M.D., Texas County, MO >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps & Dent Counties, Missouri, from Earliest Times to the Present" Published by Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** Alfred Randolph Craven, M. D., one of the successful practitioners of Texas County, is a native of Randolph County, N. C., born January 3, 1854, and is the son of John W. and Henrietta R. (Johnson) Craven. He was reared to farm life, and educated in the old subscription schools. At the age of twenty he entered a store as salesman, where he continued for ten years. When about twenty-five years of age he commenced read- ing medicine, and in 1887 and 1888 he took a course of lectures at Missouri Medical College. In the spring of 1888 he took a post gradu- ate course, and in 1888 he opened an office five miles north of Licking. In 1879 he married Miss Alice Arthur, a native of Dent County, and the fruits of this union are four children: Mildred B., Mattie E., Ashbury F. and an infant. In connection with his profession Dr. Craven carries on farming, and is the owner of 100 acres of land, besides property in Licking. He is a pleasant, agreeable gentleman, and has a good prac- tice for so short a residence in the vicinity. He is a Democrat in his political views, and both he and Mrs. Craven are members of the Metho- dist Episcopal Church, South.
