Biographical Sketch of Michael C. Jones, Texas County, Missouri

Michael C. Jones.  Prominent among the successful and enterprising
citizens of Texas County, and among those deserving special recognition
for their long residence in the county, stands the name of Mr. Jones,
who was born in Edmondson County, KY., June 17, 1827, being the son of
Felix W. and Onor (Jones) Jones, natives of Edmondson County, KY. Felix
W. Jones died in Illinois in 1875, when about seventy years of age. His
wife died in Kentucky when the subject of this sketch was a small child.
She was a distant relative of her husband, and was a member of the Bap-
tist Church.  After her death Felix W. Jones married Miss Catherine
Cockerill, who is still living, and is a resident of Bates County, MO.
She was born in Barren County, KY.  Mr. Jones followed farming all his 
life, and lived in Edmondson County, KY., until 1848, when he moved to
Franklin County, Ill.  He afterward moved to Marion County, Ark., where
he resided a few years, and then moved back to Franklin County, Ill. He
was a Whig in politics, and afterward a Republican.  He was a member of
the Baptist Church.  Michael C. Jones was the eldest of five children
born to his parents, all now living: Michael C.; Olive, wife of Ben-
jamin Anthony (deceased); Chylon, Iradel, and Marcellus, who is now a
resident of Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory.  Michael C. Jones was
quite young when he left his home and went to Hardin County, KY.  He
followed farming in that county for two years, and then lived in Edmond-
son County, KY.  In 1849 he went to Franklin County, Ill., where he re-
sided until the spring of 1852, and then went to Texas, remaining there
a short time, and then went to Arkansas.  Here he found a company going
to California, and went with them across the plains, and assisted in
driving 800 head of cattle.  After reaching that State he followed 
mining for three years, and then returned by way of Nicaraugua and New
Orleans.  He remained in Franklin County, Ill., a short time, and then 
made another trip to Texas, but soon moved to Williamson County, Ill.,
where he lived until 1871, and then moved to where he now resides.  He
is the owner of 160 acres of as good land as is to be found in the 
county.  December 29, 1856, he married Miss Nancy Henry Clayton, a 
native of Warren County, KY., born in 1835, and the daughter of Foster
Clayton.  To Mr. and Mrs. Jones have been born one daughter, Eliza
Hubbard, wife of Frank Payne Hubbard.  Mr. Jones is a Democrat in poli-
tics, and is a member of the Masonic fraternity.  To Mr. Hubbard and 
wife have been born two children: Grace May and Henry H.
