Biographical Sketch of Eugene O'Mara, Washington County, Missouri >From "History of Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Crawford and Gasconade Counties", Biographical Appendix, Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1888. ********************************************************************** Eugene O'Mara, county assessor of Washington County, is a son of Eugene O'Mara, who was born in Ireland, in 1803, received an excellent educa- tion in youth, and immediately after graduating came to the United States, and settled in Potosi, Washington Co., Mo., where he engaged in teaching school, and proved himself to be one of the most efficient and accomplished of instructors, for a long time he held the office of county surveyor, and also dealt in general merchandise, in which busi- ness he was engaged at the time of his death, which occurred in August, 1869. He married Mary Hudson, who was born in England, in 1831, and who, with her four children, Sarah A., Eugene, Caroline and Mary Frances, still survives her husband. The three daughters are engaged in teaching school. Eugene, the only son, was born in Washington County February 5, 1859, where he was reared and obtained experience in mer- cantile work. He served four years in the drug business and the post- office. He was elected to the office of county assessor in 1886, his opponent having held the office twenty-two years, a fact that is highly complimentary to Mr. O'Mara. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
