The Washington Co. Journal May 2, 1867
 
Washington County Agricultural Society 
 
 
 
The meeting of the citizens, called to organize an Agricultural society, met 
in the Court House and organized by calling Hon. Geo. B. Cole to the Chair, 
and appointing Fin. R. Hanna, Secretary.
 
Upon motion to form a committee consisting of two persons from each township 
in the county, to solicit the co-operation of their respective townships, and 
to present persons, in a petition to the County Court, to organize an 
Agricultural Society, the following named persons were appointed by the Chair:
 
Breton - George B. Cole, Frank Harris
Concord - Dr. H.W. Poston, Jas H. Stapp
Harmony - J.G. Wingo, A.P. Matthews
Union - Wm Long, John C. Breckenridge
Liberty - Dr. F. Casey, Charles Springer
Belview - Albert Carr, M.I. Howard
Richwoods - Michael Flynn, James Lannen
Johnson - C.A. Young, C.M. Swann
 
On motion, the Secretary was added to the list.
 
A motion to return the thanks of the meeting to Judge J.H. Vail for granting 
the use of the Circuit Court room for holding the meeting, was carried.
 
On motion, the meeting adjourned until the second day of the meeting of the 
County Court, Tuesday, June 11.
 
On motion, the Secretary was ordered to furnish the Washington Co. Journal 
with a report of the proceedings, with a request that the same be published.
