Wayne County Missouri, Unidentified Civil War Soldier Photo ==================================================================== Copyright. All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: © Lynch, Kimberly ==================================================================== I have this tin-type of an unidentified civil war soldier. I bought it in Virginia from a dealer who said the tin-type came from an estate auction around Mingo Swamp Missouri. Ironically, my ancestors were all confederate soldiers from that area - the McGee family. The dealer knew I was from Missouri but had no idea about my confederate ancestors around Mingo Swamp. Naturally, when he mentioned Mingo Swamp, I had to have this tin-type. I am curious to find out who the soldier was. From his clothing, he is obviously a confederate, and most likely a private. Could he have been one of the 29 men killed, along with my g-g-g- Uncle Daniel McGee at the Mingo Swamp Massacre, 4 Feb., 1863? I am submitting this to share in hopes someone can identify this soldier. The tin-type appears to of had a cover that latched and could of possibly had indentification in it but unfortunately it is long gone. Anything you can do to help solve this mystery would be appreciated! Kimberly Lynch Collections Associate War Memorial Hospital
