Biographical Sketch of Thomas Anderson, Webster County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** Thomas Anderson, farmer and stock raiser of Union township, was born in Putnam county, Tenn., December 9, 1844, and is the son of Edward and Lucinda (Mahaney) Anderson, natives of Virginia. They died in Putnam county, Tenn., the father when Thomas Anderson was but fourteen years of age, and his wife one year later. They were married in the last named county, and both were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a successful tiller of the soil the principal part of his life. There were born to their union two sons and five daughters, four now living: V. W.; Adaline, wife of Alfred Jones, who is now deceased; Margaret J., wife of R. B. Waller; and Thomas. The latter, after the death of his parents, came with his brother to Missouri, and located in Laclede county. In 1862 he enlisted in Company G, Sixteenth Cavalry, Federal Army, and in 1863 he re-enlisted in Second Missouri Light Art- illary. He was mustered out November 18, 1865, and was four months on the plains after peace was declared, fighting the Sioux Indians. He was in many severe battles and skirmishes in Missouri and Arkansas during the war, but his hardest fighting was done on the plains, where he was first sergeant in the Second Missouri. He was never wounded nor taken prisoner. In 1866 he married Miss Malinda Jane McFarland, a native of Kentucky, born in 1845, and to this union ten children were born, all living: Francis M., Henry R., Margaret J., I. N., Thomas J., Allen A., John L., Eula B., Minnie E. and V. Ernest. In 1867 Mr. Anderson came to Webster county, where he turned his attention to farm- ing and stock raising. He is the owner of 480 acres of as good land as is to be found in the county, with over 200 acres under cultivation. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, the A. O. U. W., the Wheel, the G. A.
