Biographical Sketch of Adam M. Blunt, Webster County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** Adam M. Blunt is one of the old settlers of Webster county, Mo., and was born in Mecklenburgh, N. C., August 4, 1819, his father, James Blunt, being also a North Carolinian. Dorcas Moore, who was of Irish descent, and was also born in N. C., became the latter's wife, and died in her native county when her son Adam was a small boy. James Blunt died in 1830. Adam Blunt remained in N. C., until 1835, when he went to Texas and enlisted in Col. Steele's independent regiment, serving nine months. After residing in Tennessee until 1839, he came to Missouri, and was married in Lincoln county, March 1, 1843, to Nancy G. Williams, who was born in N. C., June 16, 1828, a daughter of John and Fannie Williams, of N. C. After residing in Missouri for about two years they moved to Arkansas, but shortly after returned to Missouri, and up to 1854 resided in Lincoln County. From that time until the present he has remained in Webster county, with the exception of one year (1877) when he lived in Texas. He has sixty acres of his 105 acre farm under cultivation, and has a comfortable residence and good barns and orchards. In 1861 he enlisted in the Twenty-fourth Missouri Infan- try, United States Army, and served until he received his discharge at St. Louis, and after returning home was elected lieutenant of a company of State Militia. He is a Republican in politics, and a member of the G. A. R., and the following are the children born to his union with Miss Williams: James L., Alfred M., Lavina (wife of George Spradling), Daniel L., George, Huldah J. (wife of William Potter), and Sarah E. (wife of W. D. Edwards). Those deceased are John C. (who was killed February 2, 1862, while serving in the United States Army), Mary F. (who was married and died September 20, 1878), Martha E. (married, and died April 19, 1879), Joseph A. (who died July 12, 1871, aged sixteen years), and an infant. Mr. Blunt and wife are members of the Christian Church. Their son, Alfred M. Blunt, was born in Lincoln county, Mo., July 30, 1849, but was reared to manhood in Webster county, and remain- ed with his father until twenty years of age, enlisting in 1863 in the Sixteenth Missouri Cavalry, and, after participating in the battles of Big Blue, Independence, Boonville and the fights with Price in Missouri he received his discharge on the 29th of June, 1864, and returned to his home, where he was married September 3, 1868, to Miss Ruthie E., a daughter of Thomas W. Potter, who was formerly from Illinois. She was born and reared in Greene county, Mo., and in 1874 she and Mr. Blunt located on their present farm of eighty acres, forty of which are under cultivation. They have made many improvements since locating, and have a comfortable home and outbuildings, and a good bearing orchard of 125 trees, besides a young orchard of 500 trees. He is a Republican in politics, and has served part of two terms as constable of his town- ship. His wife died on the 4th of October, 1885, leaving the following family: Sarah E. (wife of Jasper Miller), Mary E., Celia, James and Thomas. Two infants are deceased. August 7, 1877 he wedded Edith Atkinson, a daughter of John Atkinson (deceased). She was born in Arkansas and reared in Missouri.
