Biographical Sketch of William M. Crump, Webster County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** William M. Crump, resident of Niangua, Webster county, Mo., and a native of that county, born July 15, 1856, is the son of Adam and Mary (Puett) Crump, natives of North Carolina. The father died in Webster county, Mo., December 17, 1862 at the age of thirty-five, and the mother died in the same county April 24, 1884. They were married in North Carolina and came to Missouri in 1849, being among the first settlers of the county. He was a farmer all his life with the except- ion of a year and a half, 1854 and 1855, when he was in the mines of California, and where he was quite successful. He served a short time in the Federal Army, was a Democrat in politics, and both he and wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. To their marr- iage were born four children, three now living: John P., farmer in Webster county, Mo.; William M.; and Nancy C., wife of Davis Tuttle, of North Carolina. Mary E. died when three years of age. William M. Crump remained with his mother until after her death, and followed the occupation of a farmer and stock raiser, which he still continues. He is the owner of a well improved and well located farm, and is one of the successful and enterprising young farmers of the county. In Janu- ary, 1878, he chose for his companion in life Miss Winifred A. Dameron, daughter of John S. Dameron, who is a native of North Carolina and an old settler of Webster county, Mo. Mrs. Crump was born in the last named county in 1861, and by her union to Mr. Crump became the mother of four children: Mary A., Ella M., Georgie L. and Inez R.
