Biographical Sketch of John W. Hubbard, Webster County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** John W. Hubbard, farmer and sheriff of Webster county, Mo., was born near Danville, Mo., August 1, 1859, and is a son of Bird Hubbard, who was a Virginian, and was brought to Missouri in his childhood by his father, William Hubbard, and settled in Montgomery county, of which they were among the pioneers. Bird Hubbard was married in that county to Miss Sultana Grooms, and was engaged in manufacturing tobacco until the breaking out of the war, when he enlisted in a Missouri cavalry regiment, United States army, and served until the close of the war, when he returned to his family and engaged in farming. About 1875 he went to Texas, and located in Eastland county, near Eastland city, where he still resides. His son, John W. Hubbard, resided in his native county until 1880, when he became a resident of Webster county, and two years later moved to Texas, where he spent about one and a half years, since which time he has been residing on his present farm in Webster county, Mo. He is a member of the Republican party, and was elected sheriff of Webster county on that ticket, receiving a handsome majority. On the 8th of June, 1879, he was married to Miss Laura E. Harmon, a daughter of William H.
