Biographical Sketch of Abram Harges, Webster County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** Abram Harges was born in Marion county, Tenn., in September 1819, and is a son of Abner Harges, who was married in Tennessee to Nancy Smith, and there reared his family and spent the remainder of his days. Abram Harges remained in his native country till October 31, 1837, at which time he joined the United States service to serve in the Florida War. After having served faithfully he was honorably discharged at Baton Rouge, La., May 10, 1838, and then returned to his native country, Tennessee, and remained till 1839, when he came to Missouri. He then made three trips back to Tennessee. He married in Marion county, Tenn., September 12, 1848, to Miss Louisa Mitchell, a daughter of John Mitchell, who was formerly from North Carolina, and one of the pioneers of Tennessee. After his marriage he located permanently, in 1850, in Webster county, Mo. His occupation has always been farming. He enlis- ted for ninety days in the Home Guards in 1861 in the behalf of the government.
