Biographical Sketch of John F. Miller, Webster County, Missouri

John F. Miller, farmer and stock raiser of Webster county, Mo., was 
born in Stark county, of the "Buckeye State," August 18, 1849, and is
a son of John Miller, who was born in Northumberland county, Penn.,
and removed to Ohio when a young man, settling in Stark county, where
he was engaged in merchandising for about fifteen years.  He served as
postmaster of his town at the same time, and was married in Stark 
county to Elizabeth Keplinger, a native of Ohio, and there reared his
family.  His later years were spent in tilling the soil, and his death
occurred on the 16th of May, 1883.  John F. Miller was reared to man-
hood on a farm, and received his education in the common schools, and
took a two years' course in the Mount Union College, at Mount Union,
Ohio, completing the course in 1867.  He then engaged in pedagoguing,
which occupatioin he continued in Wayne county for two years, and on
December 8, 1870, was married in Columbiana county to Miss Jane Hahn,
who was born, reared and educated in that county, completing her 
schooling in Mount Union College.  She was also a teacher by profession
and was a daughter of Adam Hahn, who was born in Columbiana county in
1812.  After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Miller located on a farm in
Stark county, but in 1883 sold out and came westward, looking for a
suitable location in Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois and several other 
Western states.  Mr. Miller then returned to Ohio, and in the spring
of 1885 removed to Missouri with his family, and in August of that year
purchased and located on the farm on which he now resides.  He has a
tract of land consisting of 400 acres, and has 200 acres cleared and
under cultivation, and well improved, with a large two story residence,
good barns, and a fine orchard of twelve acres.  He is quite extensive-
ly engaged in dealing in and breeding thoroughbred short-horn cattle,
and has a very fine herd at the present time.  He has always supported 
the measures of the Democratic party, and has held the office of town-
ship trustee for three consecutive terms, and has also been a member of
the county committee of Webster county.  He was also congressional
committeeman from his district in 1888, and is a Master Mason in the
Masonic fraternity, a member of Lodge 499, of Columbiana county, Ohio.
He and wife are the parents of the following family: Frank, Dean, John,
Marion, Harvey, Melvin and Bessie.
