Biographical Sketch of James Thomas Morris, Webster County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** James Thomas Morris, of the mercantile firm of Morris & Bouldin, was born in Greene county, Mo., June 20, 1853, being a son of Robert and Martha (Thornton) Morris, who were born, reared and married in Tenn. They moved to Missouri about 1840, locating in Greene county, but the father's death occurred at Pilot Knob in 1863, he having served eight- een months in the Eighth Missouri Volunteer Cavalry. James T. Morris remained with his mother in Greene county, Mo., until he attained his majority, receiving the advantages of the common schools. After starting out in life for himself he was engaged in farming in Greene county for about three years, then sold out and removed to Barry county in 1879, and was occupied in merchandising at Eagle Rock for about eighteen months. He disposed of his stock about this time, and in March, 1880, moved to Henderson and embarked in business under the firm name of Wharton & Morris, but after some time Mr. Wharton retired the firm now being known as Morris & Bouldin. Mr. Morris built their present business house in 1884, and owing to his many sterling busi- ness qualities he has established a good trade. In 1887 he was appointed notary public, and in his political views is a Republican. In March, 1875, he was married to Mary L. Wharton, who was born in Greene county, and by her is the father of two children: James C. and Clarence R.
