Biographical Sketch of William M. Puett, one of the leading citizens of Webster county, Mo., is a native of Caldwell county, N. C., where he was born on the 27th of May, 1855. His parents, Joseph N. and Irene (Loudermilk) Puett, were born in Caldwell county, N. C., the former's birth occurring in 1832, and the latter's birth occurring in 1840. Joseph N. Puett died July 4, 1858 at the age of twenty-six years. His widow is still re- siding in Caldwell county, and is the wife of George W. Crump, a farmer. Joseph N. Puett was a farmer by occupation, a Democrat in politics, and a member of the Lutheran church. The mother is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and by Mr. Puett became the mother of four children, three of whom are living at the present time: Mary (wife of Charles A. Bradford), William M., Caroline S. (wife of Thomas Lofton), and Joseph N. (who died February 13, 1882, at the age of twenty-two years). To her last marriage four children were born, two of whom are living. At the age of twenty-two years William M. Puett came to Missouri, and first engaged in farming on rented land, but afterward purchased the farm on which he is now residing, which is a fertile and well improved tract of land. November 27, 1881 he was united in marriage to Ellen Copening, a daughter of Jacob Copening. She was born in Webster county, Mo., May 17, 1864, and is the mother of six children, two of whom are living: John J. and Virgie Irene. Mr. Puett is one of the enterprising young citizens of the county, and bids fair to become one of its wealthy inhabitants.
