Biographical Sketch of John J. Redmond, Webster County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** John J. Redmond, a leading citizen of Webster county, Mo., and son of Matthew and Ann (Burne) Redmond, was born in Liverpool, England, June 24, 1833. The parents left England in 1848, immigrated to Canada, located near London, and here died at the age of eighty-eight. Mr. Redmond was a man of education, and was a member of the I. O. O. F. John J. Redmond was the youngest of a family on nine children, six now living. He came with his parents to America when sixteen years of age, and commenced clerking in London, Canada, in a general grocery where he remained for five years. He then came to the United States, locating in Ramsey county, Minn., where he farmed, taught school and was justice of the peace, for four years. He then came to St. Louis, and entered the employ of the Southern Pacific Railroad (now 'Frisco) and remained in their employ until 1870. He then came to Niangua, where he was engaged in merchandising, milling, and was ticket agent and Adams Express agent, postmaster and notary public, until 1883. During the late war he was captain of a company of militia, but previous to this, December 25, 1856, he married Miss Emily Nicholson, daughter of sampson Nicholson, a native of London, Canada. To this union were born three children: John N., Emily and Sarah.
