Biographical Sketch of P. P. Wells, Webster County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** P. P. Wells deserves honorable mention as one of the prosperous stock men and farmers of Webster county, Mo. His birth occurred December 4, 1846 in Orange county, N. C., and he is a son of W. W. and Rachel (Compton) Wells, who were also born and reared in Orange county, their marriage taking place in that county. They made their native state their home until 1851, when they located on a farm in what is now Webster county, Mo., where they reared their family and still reside. Their son, P. P. Wells, received a good common school education, and remained with and assisted his father on the farm until he attained his twenty-first birthday, when he began the battle of life for himself, and was married February 26, 1867, to Miss Mary E. Pumphrey, of Ozark county, and soon after located on a farm in Dallas county, where he was engaged in tilling the soil for several years. After spending two years in Ozark Township they returned to Dallas Township, where Mr. Wells began handling and trading in stock, which business he has made quite a success. He ships several car loads of stock annually, which nets him a nice income per year. Nearly all of his farm, which amounts to eighty-six acres, is under cultivation, and furnished with fair buildings. Besides this property he owns a good residence and fifteen acres of land adjoining Henderson. He is a Master Mason, a Democrat in politics, and he and wife have reared the following family: Rachel F. (the eldest, was the wife of J. D. Foster, and died in June, 1888); W. C., J. F., Rosa E. and Maggie M. Mrs. Wells is a daughter of William G. Pumphrey, one of the pioneers of Ozark county. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
