Agee, Wright County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** John B. Agee, liveryman at Mountain Grove, Mo., was born in Scott Co., Va., in 1837. He is the son of Isaac and Hannah (Bounds) Agee, and the grandson of William Agee, who was a native of Virginia, and a tiller of the soil by occupation. He was one of the early settlers of Virginia, and died in Scott County of that state. While boating on the river he had the sight of one of his eyes destroyed. Isaac Agee was also a native of Virginia, and also followed agricultural pursuits. He moved to Tennessee when the subject of this sketch was a child, and followed farming in that state for several years. He passed his last days in that state. Hannah Agee was the mother of eight children, and also died in Tennessee. John B. Agee, his father and grandfather were all Union men, while all the rest of the connection were Southern sympath- izers, and most of them were killed in the Confederate Army. John B. Agee grew to manhood in Tenn., and there married Miss Sarah Long, who bore him three children: William, James E., and Docia, wife of Harvey Young. Mrs. Agee died in April, 1874, and Mr. Agee afterward married Miss Elizabeth Hart, daughter of Judge Hart, of Norwood. These child- ren were born to this union: Fred, Marion, Laura, Luie, Ada (deceased), John and Ben. Mr. Agee came to Missouri in 1860, and worked on the 'Frisco Railroad one year, but his principal occupation has been farm- ing. He is the owner of 80 acres of land. In 1887 he moved to Mountain Grove, and has now the only livery in the place. Aside from this he owns some valuable town property. He is a Republican in politics; is a member of the Masonic fraternity, Tyler of Mountain Grove Lodge, and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
