Biographical Sketch of Argus Cox, Wright County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** Argus Cox, attorney at law, and prosecuting attorney of Wright County, Mo., was born in Van Buren County, Iowa, in 1856, and is the son of Randolph and Sarah (McIntosh) Cox. The father was born in Indiana, and is a farmer by occupation. He was reared in Illinois, being taken there when a child, but afterward moved to Iowa, where he married Miss Sarah McIntosh, and became the father of nine children. He moved to Wright County, Mo., in 1884, and is now located at Mountain Grove. His wife is also living. Argus Cox was the fourth child in the order of birth. He attained his growth in Van Buren County, Iowa, receiving a good literary education, and was a graduate from the law department of the State University in 1882. He then entered the law office of Sloanwork & Brown, Keosauqua, Iowa, where he remained for some time. Previous to his graduating in law he had taught school, being principal of the graded school at Milton, and he now returned to that profession. He first began the practice of law at Greenfield, Adair County, Iowa, but went from there to Jasper County, Mo., remaining there for sometime and then moved to Mountain Grove, Wright County, Mo., in the spring of 1884, where he engaged in the practice of law. In 1886 he was elected prosecuting attorney of Wright County, and is one of the promising young men of the county. He is a Republican in politics, is a member of the I. O. O. F., and is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He choose for his companion in life Miss Emma E. Starr, who was born in Wisconsin in 1862.
