Biographical Sketch of Samuel F. Grubb, Wright County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** Dr. Samuel F. Grubb, now a farmer of Hart Township, Wright Co., Mo., was born in Wythe County, Va., in 1826, the son of Henry and Mary (Woolford) Grubb, and grandson of John Grubb, who was also a native of Wythe County, Va., and born back in the eighteenth century. The pater- nal great-grandfather came from Switzerland, and settled near Wythe- ville, Va. Henry Grubb was born in Wythe County, Va., in 1799, was reared on a farm owned by his father, and he there followed agriculture pursuits all his life. He was captain of the State Militia in Virginia and died in 1873. Mary (Woolford) Grubb died in 1882, at the age of seventy-nine or eighty years. She was the mother of thirteen children, of whom Dr. Samuel F. Grubb is the fifth. He attained his growth in his native county, and studied and practiced dentistry under Dr. John Welsh, an expert in his profession. Dr. Grubb became a partner with him, and soon became one of the most popular dentists in the country. He practiced in Wythe and Grayson Counties for more than thirty years. He moved to Wright County, Mo., in 1887, and purchased 300 acres of land, on which he is now residing. Hew has had a few difficult cases since coming to Missouri, but has not attended to the dental business entirely. He expects, as soon as he can, to go to work here again. He was married in North Carolina to Miss Margaret Huddle, who was born in Wythe County, Va. They ran away, were married in North Carolina, and to their union were born two children, Nancy and Mary E. Dr. Grubb is a Republican in politics, and is an excellent citizen. His set of dental instruments are as good as can be found in the United States, and cost him $450 in gold. The handles of all his instruments are made of cameo, ivory and pearl, with gold bands. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
