The father was born, reared and married in Tennessee, and about 1852 immigrated to Missouri, but after- ward moved from Wright county, where he had first settled, to Phelps County, where he spent the remainder of his days. Isaac L. Hart is the eldest of their nine children, and since attaining manhood has been a resident of Missouri. He was engaged in farming until 1878, and was then elected associate judge of the Wright County Court, in which cap- acity he served two years, then engaging in the hardware business, as a member of the firm of I. L. Hart & Co., at Mansfield. Ten months later owing to the death of one partner, John Gorman, he sold to Calvin Spence, and returned to the farm, where he remained until his removal to Hartville in 1885. After working in Mr. Prophet's store some time he entered the firm of Mabon & Hart, buying out Mr. Mabon one year later, and moving to Norwood. The present firm are now doing a thriv- ing business, their stock being valued at about $8,000. In 1863 Judge Hart was married in Wright County to Miss Tryphenah Pool, which union has resulted in the birth of four children: Sarah, Elizabeth, Laura and Frances (wife of S. E. Pope). The paternal grandfather, Leonard Hart, Sr., was a Pennsylvania Dutchman, and could neither read nor write the English language. He was an early immigrant to Tennessee. The mater- nal grandfather, George W. Emmett, was also a native of Pennsylvania, and both were soldiers in the Revolutionary War. The latter received a wound in the head by a sword, and was left for dead on the battle field, but recovered from his wound. Judge Hart is a member of the A. F. & A.
