Biographical Sketch of J. M. McKee, Wright County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** J. M. McKee, justice of the peace of Pleasant Valley Township, Wright County, Mo., was born in Frederick County, Va., in 1830, and is a son of Joel and Rebecca (Kline) McKee, who were born in Virginia, in 1800, and died in 1835 and 1880, respectively. The paternal grandparents were Virginians, and there spent their lives, but the maternal grand- parents were of Irish descent. J. M. McKee grew to manhood in Virginia and was educated in the common schools of that state, and after reach- ing a suitable age began traveling through his native state and Tenn., in the employ of T. J. Doyle & Co., of Fredericksburg, Va., selling farming implements. At the age of thirty years he was married, in Scott County, Va., to Miss Elizabeth Grubb, who was born in Sullivan County, Tenn., in 1837. She is a daughter of Curtis A. Grubb, who was one of the early emigrants from Virginia to Tennessee. His wife, whose maiden name was Mary Ann Curtis, was born in Virginia, and is still living, and makes her home with her only surviving child, Mrs. McKee. Mr. McKee left Virginia in 1863, and moved to Kentucky, where he remained until 1869, having entered the Federal service, but at the end of eighteen months was mustered out of service at Lexington, Ky. In 1869 he went to Kansas, but two years later located in Missouri, residing in Douglas County until about four years since, when he retired from active life, and came to Mansfield. He owns a good residence and two town lots in Mansfield, and for some time has held the offices of notary public and justice of the peace. He is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, the G. A. R., and in his political views is a Republican. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
