Biographical Sketch of A. J. J. Rudd, postmaster at Mountain Grove, Wright County, Mo., was born in Greene County of the same State in 1864, and is the son of P. W. and Delilah (Messimar) Rudd, and grandson of William A. Rudd, who was a native of Scotland. He immigrated to America and located in North Carolina. The maternal grandfather, Peter Messimar, was a native of Germany, and immigrated to America at an early date. He located in Tennessee, but afterward moved to Georgia, where he now resides, and, although ninety-seven years of age, enjoys excellent health. P. W. Rudd was born in Casville, N. C., but immigrated to Georgia, where he married Miss Messimar. He was a farmer by occupation, also a dealer in real estate and a merchant. He came to Missouri in 1859, and located in Greene County in 1866, but left that county and went to Washington County, Ark. After remaining in that state for a year he returned to Missouri, locating at Hartville, Wright County, and there followed the law and real estate business. He came to Mountain Grove in 1884; was appointed postmaster August 30, 1885 and served until his death, which occurred January 21, 1888. To Mr. and Mrs. Rudd were born nine child- ren, seven of whom are now living, A. J. Rudd being the eldest son. He was married February 24, 1884, to Miss Jennie L. Rippee, who was born in 1868. She is now the mother of two children, Audrey L. and Ada. Mrs. Rudd is still in school, though married and a mother. She attend- ed school at Richmond, Mo., before marriage, and was a teacher in Tennessee at the time of marriage. She is of a decidedly literary taste, and contemplates completing a classical course and still further pursue the business of teaching. Mr. Rudd, besides being postmaster, is a full partner with F. M. Garner in the hardware firm of Rudd & Garner. He is a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge, and is a decided Democrat in his political principles.
