Biographical Sketch of Dr. I. S. Wilson, Wright County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** Dr. I. S. Wilson, secretary and general manager of Spring River Lumber Company, Cedar Gap, Wright Co., Mo., was born in Belmont County, Ohio, in 1845, and attained his growth on the farm. He took his first course of medical lectures in Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated in New York City when about twenty-one years of age, under the great Dr. Flint. After graduating he enlisted in the Federal service, as surgeon in Brown's staff, in March, 1865. He remained in the employ of the government until 1871, when he returned to Ohio. He resided for a year and a half in Illinois, Henderson county, and came to Missouri in 1873. He locat- ed in Webster county when the Gulf Railroad came through, in 1882; later he moved to Cedar Gap; was made postmaster, and still holds that position. He was elected surveyor of Webster county two terms and when he had served his term nearly out, resigned. He stumped the county for the Greenback nominee for representative. He practiced medicine at Waldo for about nine years, and then, in 1882, embarked in the lumber business at Cedar Gap, Mo., gradually withdrawing from active practice. May 7, 1886 he took a partner in the lumber business, G. W. Freeman, and this firm is worth $50,000. Dr. Wilson was married in Waldo to Miss Naomi Dixon, of Webster county, born in 1862 (now deceased), and one child (also dead) was the result of this union. His parents, Avery and Sarah (Hayes) Wilson, were both natives of Belmont county, Ohio, and both born in the year 1818. Avery Wilson was a farmer by occupa- tion. He is now deceased. The paternal grandfather, Caleb Wilson, was a native of Ohio, and the paternal grandmother, whose maiden name was Mills, was a native of North Carolina. She was a Quaker, and was a member of Millwood Church in Ohio. The great-grandfather Wilson was also a native of Ohio. Dr. Wilson is the owner of a farm and some town property in Webster county.
