Biographical Sketch of Archabal Young, Wright County, Missouri >From "History of Laclede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski, Phelps and Dent Counties, Missouri" The Goodspeed Publishing Company, 1889. ********************************************************************** Archabal Young, an enterprising farmer of Gasconade township, Wright Co., Mo., was born in Perry Co., Ky., in 1822, and is a son of Samuel and Mary (Newton) Young. The paternal grandparents, so far as known, were born in Ireland, and the grandmother died in Kentucky. Samuel Young was born in North Carolina, May 5, 1774, grew to manhood in that state, and there married. He farmed for many years in Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana and Missouri, moving into the last named state in the fall of 1841, and there died in 1850. His wife, Mrs. Mary (Newton) Young, was born in North Carolina, November 10, 1777, and was the mother of ten children, all of whom lived to be grown. She died in Indiana when her son Archabal was six years of age. He remained in Indiana until nineteen years of age, when he moved to Wright Co., Mo., and was one of the pioneer hunters of that state. He made hunting a business, and he now says that if all the deer he has killed were alive and turned into one herd, it would astonish people. The woods at that time abounded in many wild animals, and were a hunter's paradise. Mr. Young went to work and now has an excellent farm. He has been married three times: first, to Miss Frances Rippee, and after her death to Mrs. Cynthia Blankenship, who bore him two children, Cynthia and Angeline. After her death Mr. Young married Miss Elizabeth H. McCain. To the first marriage were born six children. During the Civil War Mr. Young was a member of Company E, Eighth Missouri Cavalry. He is a Democrat in politics, is a member of the Wheel, and has been a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for forty-five years. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
