Dr George Cockran Ferguson; graduate of the Medical University of N.Y. in 23rd year of his age. Dr. Ferguson was a native of Adams County, Miss; and received his education in the Jefferson College. By his acquirements under the tuition, chiefly of Messrs. Norton, Caldwell and M. Allister, he exhibited a highly favorable example of native genious. After prosecuting his medical studies to completion in N.Y., and submitting to some delay in consequence of his immature age, he returned to his native state in the spring of 1824, and commenced the practice his profession in the town of Washington, where the estimation in which he was held procurred him a liberal patronage. During the late awful visitation of the town of Washington, he remained at his post after every other physician had either sickened or fled, devoting himself to the cause of humanity. He saw stretched upon the couch of sickness or in the arms of death the remaining population of the place, himself almost the sole exception, when the fell destroyer came and arrested his career of usefulness.
