James Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mark Baptist Church Cemetery in Kingston under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home. Visitation is from noon to 10 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Mr. Pettis was born Nov. 25, 1916, in Adams County, the son of Johnnie and Ida Pettis of Natchez. Survivors include his daughters, Irene (Curtis) Jones and Rhonda Petties; one son, William Petties Jr.; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bessie Johnson of Chicago, Annie Mae (Leslie) Joyner of Missouri and Elizabeth (Willie) Briscoe of Chicago; one brother, Richard (Carrie) Petties; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Petties and Marquerite Petties of New Orleans; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Joe D. Wallace, Robert Lewis, Alexander McQuarter, Clyde Bernard, Charles Screw and Ponce Crosonga.
